The UK mis-sold commercial energy sector is worth in excess of £10 billion per annum. Recent estimates show that 80% of business energy deals are purchased through Brokers as businesses are led to believe these Brokers, Consultants and TPI’s are the best way to obtain the cheapest Energy Contracts. However, many Brokers fail to disclose with clients that the monthly cost of these bills includes commission, meaning companies have been mis-sold energy deals.

These recent findings have resulted in the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) instating new measures, whereby Brokers are called to provide transparency in the commission they take. Alarmingly, in certain cases, Brokers have received a business’ first year of energy billing as commission from the Energy Companies. This demonstrates mis-selling of a service and dishonesty and is grounds for a successful reclaim.
